I understand that the sound and bleed libraries can reside on external drive.
I also understand that the small installer software must reside on internal HD.

Yes, All of my SD3 Core Libraries and SDX expansions reside on an external drive.
In fact, when that external drive is not connected,
I run SD3 with only my EZX expansions that are installed on my internal drive.
