Cool. Can’t say fairer than that. I’ll be interested to see how thing/if things develop.

Just hope its something my ipad2 can run rather than only feasible on the new iPad. Ho hum, we shall see.

    Thanks

Just seen a bit of extra info in this video near the end

    http://www.vdrums.com/forum/showthread.php?66978-Alesis-DMDock-Drum-Module-for-your-iPad/page5

They are releasing the Sdk for their system so that other drum companies (please do it toontrack) can use it to build their app around.

Please please please say you guys are looking into this.

    Hi

It’s great that Allen is happy to send the sample but it does highlight an issue which I think needs to be considered with regards the sample songs for all products. It seems to me misleading to use additional samples in the example songs for any products as customers are led to believe the presets will produce those sounds.

Surely it would be more transparent to only allow the sample songs to be made using only toontrack fx included in the product for the drum track. Otherwise we could be hearing UAD or WAVES stuff etc and think that is the sound we can get out of the box. As quoted above Allen added the clap sample to get it even bigger but that highlights the preset alone can’t get it that big (something a customer should be aware of before parting with their cash).

I love toontrack so this isn’t a flame just that I think it’s important that things are kept transparent to ensure customers know what they are paying for. I even wonder if it could be considered unfair adverstising?

I may be wrong but I believe some of the songs mentioned were examples of songs in the real world using superior sounds and as such the engineers may not have been contracted to toontrack for the purpose of producing presets and so it may not be possible for those presets to be made available.

That said there was some mention at the end of last year of some of the ramelt/soderstrom music city presets to be made available which I for one am really looking forward to. This was postponed due to the metal month at the end of 2010 but since then no more has been said.

Any more news guys? I believe it was Rogue who had mentioned it.

Hmmm hot in here isn’t it. For the sake of fairness I think its worth pointing out that Chris is essentially a session drummer who has been employed to play for the recording of these samples – he is not a permanent member of toontrack staff it just happens that he is passionate enough about the stuff that he is an active member of the forum (which personally I think is great to have such experience on tap). . The way the final product is released marketed and formatted is not in his hands and like he says he would love to see the hard work he has put in end up in an sdx as well but as a session player that’s not his call to make. Personally I’d love to see all recordings released in both formats at the same time so the punters decide what they need as suggested earlier but again this is not chris’ decision so it’s hardly his fault if he when interviewed talks about the drum nuances as he is after all a drummer.

Just thought it’s worth keeping things in perspective

I made some diy cones from foam kneeling mats used by gardeners. Work a treat and cost next to nothing. I simply cut two discs from the mat and stick one on top of the other using strong double sided tape. Then I just cones off the top using electric carving knife (work great for cutting rockwool for sound proofing too). Seriously it may sound a bit homebrew but they work great.

    Hi

I’m afraid ezdrummer is a playback instrument and doesn’t have the functionality you are looking for. Toontrack do make a program called ezplayer which you may find useful but I don’t think it works in the way you mention. Probably the simplest option would be to find a midi groove in ezdrummer which is the closest to what you want and then edit it in the midi editor of logic. I use cubase so dnt know the ins and outs of logic especially the express version but it should have a basic midi editor probably in the form of a piano roll style. This is really simple to use and you should even be able to loop it while playing and recording so you can just add each drum on a separate pass like you were enquiring about if you wanted to build your own grooves from scratch.

I have two uad2 cards as well as the liquidmix by Focusrite. There are a lot of differing thoughts about the LM but bang for buck it is hard to beat with nice sounding emulations. However I found it not very stable so looked into uad2 and I have to say it just plain rocks. The uad2 works really stable and the quality of the plugins is immense. My LM just sits there gathering dust now as I use the UAE for everything and once you’ve bought the card the plugs aren’t that expensive and there are monthly deals as well.
Sure some of the newer plugs are more expensive but for your bread and butter eqs and comps they are really well priced.

The plate reverb is lovely and the neve eqs and vintage compressors are great.

All in all I love uad2 and now they have released the studer tape sim I’m starting to think about getting a third card when I can afford it.

This has been asked for a few times before. One reason cited against the idea was that there are lots of different setups of channel combinations and also room mics etc. Obviously this is still an issue with x-drums and guys use them all the time but i guess the general ethos with superior is great drums recorded in great rooms and then using x drums to add bits here and there but if entire kits were made up of bits then you would lose the authenticity added by the rooms etc

One suggestion round this was to record lots of smaller packs all in the same room so then room is consistent for that range of mini sdx.

Oh well there goes my theory not gonna be music city with nir z on the kit. There were some other kits recorded at allaire or avatar I believe so maybe its that.

Producers interface – now that sounds interesting and sounds like something I asked in a different thread. Will the producer interface be made available to everyday customers at any point? kinda like ezmix becomes superiormix?

I would love to have the functionality to go behind the scenes and really start to edit and save home made presets

That should have said ezx not wax. That’s predictive text on iPhone for you!

I’m guessing music city as the nashville wax had a red sparkle kit design and music city has a White kit. One of the music city kits is slingerland and the other is a brand I hadn’t heard of before so fits your description.
