And now you have successfully compensated for your big differences of your attack levels from your clean and dry DI signal and finally you could normalize at a higher average level?

    Just want to know.

    Hi Phil,

I was thinkng a lot of what is possible to reach the desired goal of more realistic slides.

In my opinion having real sliding samples as part of the library is very complex, because you can slide from any note to any other note forwards or backwards.

I was testing how do single notes sound in contrast to the algorythm that EZbass ist currently supporting us. There is already some kind of smoothing. My impression is that they are doing it with a simple volume crossfade.

I also made a test on my real fretted bass guitar for I want to stay fair. Even on a real fretted bass you can hear the steps from fret to fret.

But transitions should be smoother, maybe by adding a morphing algorythm of a larger area between two frets.

Furthermore there should be sliding finger/string noise in the background.

    1. You should not work with distorted sound here. The cleaner the better, because distortion makes it almost impossible to discover the transient between two notes (attacks). They almost sound like sustained notes.
(Is distortion the result of your Limiter effect now? Take another one, this one is not good. You can also manually edit your outliers first before limiting).

And why is the first note so much louder than the rest of the audio? Your attacks are not even enough.

I also have experience with Superior Drummer’s Drum to Midi conversion. It is the same behavior. You need a good clean audio with not too much difference in volume/level of your peaks so after normalization a get a constantly good level so they will not fall under the line of recognition. After level compensation, you might want to cut lower frequencies and emphasize picking / fingering frequencies for better transient detection.

    2. Some split points have not been recognized because of too little difference in volume, but they are there. Bring the velocity lane a little bit deeper.

    3. It is not that bad now, a little editing will always rest. But you can make things better if you devide your audio into sections. Then you can take advantage of individual settings. Inside a song, there might be some louder and less louder parts.

    bass

I have downloaded and examined  your bass file.

Three things I have noticed and tried out:

    1. Is it really your true DI bass? It sounds it is not completely dry. Reverb makes analysis difficult.
    2. Because the peaks are so different, you even must apply an auto volume plugin or limiter.
I chose a Limiter plugin at +12db boost.
    3. Set tempo to 155 bpm during conversion.

The result is quite good then.

Because of copyright reasons, I do not upload my Midi result.

You can try a trick that makes it sound better in EZbass.

Just extend the first and last note of the slide to at least 1/8.

On your old screenshot it seems to be just at 1/16 or 1/32.

It means you should hold the note for a while before you begin to slide. Same to the end.EZnass_Slides

Beside the “key switches manual”, this one I have experienced when creating all kind of articulation in EZbass and exporting it to my DAW to see what is happening:

    # KeySwitches (example: Note number 14 = D-1; 15 = D#-1; 16 = E-1; … 32 = G#0)
    32 Hammer On/Pull off
30 Slide Next (press & hold)
    26 Repeater (press)
    25 Middle Finger (press)
    23 Slap/Pop (hold) // Pop at velocity >=120
    22 Harmonic (hold)
    21 Polyphony (hold)
    20 Tapping (hold)
19 Slide Up (press) > needs to be combined with “30 slide next”
17 Slide Down (press) > needs to be combinedwith “30 slide next”
    16 Ghost Note (press)
    15 Perc Hand (press)
    14 Index Finger (press)

    # CC name map
    CC67 Damping Value
    CC64 LetRing on/off
    CC1 Modulation

Here is my audio example of an octave smooth slide (legato) at 60bpm and a note spacing of 1/2.

    Let me explain,

Yes, I want to combine my MIDI with the Toontrack Grooves.

The grooves of the Toontrack Midi library has been played by a real bass player, so the timing and feel is quite natural.

During my work with the Grid Editor, I am using the Snap-to-Grid function that results in 100% perfect note positions.

Furthermore, I am choosing the Note-length function, which also is generating 100% perfect note lengths.

So my own MIDI bass line sounds a little bit too digital and I need to invest a lot of effort for humanization.

Although there are humanization features available like Randomize, Dynamics, etc., I would prefer to transfer the information of a cool Midi groove of the Toontrack library.

Example from my own composition before: “C” at 1.2.0, “D” at 1.3.0 and “E” at 1.4.0.

Example from the Toontrack Midi: “C” at 1.2.01 and “G” at 1.3.04.

    My desired result: “C” at 1.2.01, “D” at 1.3.04 and “E” at 1.4.0.

    As you can see:

    • Differences in pitch should be ignored
    • No notes will be added or deleted
    • Only matching notes will be applied concerning note positions (optionally same to note length and velocity)

As a user I would say even the smooth slides (legato) in EZbass currently are interpreted as a slide on a fretted bass with fully depressed strings.

So it does play a sequence of halftones with a little calculation of soothing.

I have heard that it does not simply play single notes and there is a calculation behind the slides, but I also wish the algorithm would do a better job by adding a little bit of automatic pitch bending to simulate slides on a fretless bass.

In your case, to make it sound more real / less obvious, you need to reduce the time between the two notes as it does with a slide-in articulation, which is just a 16th. I would not leave more than an eighth note apart.

I guess you are talking about saving a Project over FIle > SaveAs (.sd3p).
You can check out my experiences and puropses, for I am not sure if maybe it was just a user mistake. On my PC (Win7) everything worked fine

When using a self-created drumkit: Before saving a new project your should use the SaveAs function inside the “Drums & Mixer” menu to give the drum preset an individual user name, because then it does not have the Default name anymore. I want to say give it your own user name. This gives you the possibility reloading your kit it over “User Presets”, or find it over “Manage in Explorer” while holding the rest of your open project (Midi data, etc), and you can recognize easier if it is really your kit.

Furthermore you can set your Current Project (including all project data) as your default Project (File > Set Current to Default Project), a good choice if you are not working on several projects in parallel).
Save the project individually (File > Save As…), and maybe also use the copy function (File > Save a copy…). for saving it on a different place.

Attention: When opening a saved project, it will not open directly, you will first be asked what should happen with the current open (or default) project.
    – “Cancel” will not load your saved project (in your case from the desktop), it keeps the current / default project open.
    – “Save…” means you are first saving your current / or by default loaded project, before your project from the desktop is loading.
    – “Don’t save” is best choice if you just want to load your saved project file (e.g. from the desktop) and if you do not need to care about your work before when it has been already saved by you.

And that is how it should behave. Unfortunately I have not been rejected to do so 🙁Cry
Oh, and it seems like you are using OSX, but I have WIndows 7 64bit. That seems to be the reason / difference.

    Hi gseshleman,
No, Tap2Find is working well with the empty MIDI item.
With “Drag Midi song blocks here” – zone I mean the Timeline (see attachment).

    1. I would say inside EZD2 go to MENU > “Check for updates”. The result should be a list of necessary updates.
    2. You can go to MENU > “About EZDrummer”. Here all version numbers of EZD2, EZX and MIDI libraries are listed in categories.
    3. Login to your account and klick on MY PRODUCTS,. There is a tab “UPDATES”. Download the latest MIDI files from here, unzip and install them.
    4. If all this doesn’t help maybe your library is defect. Then you should try MENU > “Advanced” > “Restore factory MIDI database” to repair the MIDI database. If this also does not help, for hardcore users, you can try to build up the new MIDI database if you delete what is inside the folder C:Users>>your_username<<AppDataRoamingToontrackEZdrummer .To eliminate issues sometimes a reinstallation of EZD2 and the MIDI files also can help. Do not delete the EZX libraries (waste of time)!
