I’m trying to use SD3 as a plugin to MainStage3 for live performance.
We built 6 kits in SD3, then created 6 patches in MS3, one for each kit. However, when we change patches in MS3 it takes several *minutes* before all the drum sounds are available – which is entirely impractical for a live performance.
I’m using a MacMini, quad-core i7 with 16GB RAM. I’ve configured SD3 to use only 1 CPU, and I’ve disabled the ‘cache’ option in SD3 so all sounds should be preloaded (not wait for the trigger). All kits are between 1000-1000MB in size.
I’m using MS3 as the DAW just so we can change patches via MIDI. No other instruments are configured in MS3. Changing between these kits (manually) in SD3 only takes about 20 seconds. MainStage loads all plugins into RAM at startup, so total RAM required by these kits should not be close to the max of 16GB.
I expected MS3 to have loaded all the kits at startup so switching between kits should be very fast. But that’s not happening. I suspect it may be MS3 that’s crapping out on me, so if someone has had success with some other simple DAW I would be willing to switch.
BTW, the audio interface is not the problem – It happens when tested with 3 different makes/models, as well as as straight out the headphone jack.
