I’ve spent a fair amount of time stacking drum samples in programs like Trigger, blending with real drums or VSTs like AD2, Trigger was restricted to dialing in the gain, panning, or attack/sustain/release of the loaded samples which were pre-processed for mixing, with Superior Drummer 3, each added snare or kick in a stack has up to 3 seperate close mics, of fairly raw samples, and I’m not sure if there a way of grouping them that is considered the best practise method?
What method works best for you? There’s 2 main options that I can see, either you create group busses for the type of sound, grouping them into Snare Top, Snare Bottom, Kick In, Kick Out, Kick Sub/Trigger etc. Or you bus together the matched sets into individual drums, Snare 1, Snare 2, Snare 3, Kick 1, Kick 2, Kick 3 etc.
Or perhaps even a mixture that’s somewhere between the two?
What do you find gives you the most control and the best results with stack elements?
Cheers
I’m in the middle of switching over from AD2 to SP3 overall I much prefer how SD3 sounds, but wondering if there is a way to alter the cut off for the cymbal mutes which to me sound a bit on the short side.
In AD2 the cymbal muting key didn’t actually make its own sound, it worked as a point you would place after the cymbal hit to choose where the cymbal would choke which was a nice flexibility in the sound as I quite like doing double cymbal chokes with slightly misaligned choke offs for a bit more realism.
I also liked that cymbal choke length were relative to the track speed, and I’m concerned the excessively fast cut off point of the default cymbal mutes in SD3 might sound out of place in a tracks, parts with a slower tempo.
Cheers
Just downloaded SD3 to use with my e-drums. I was wondering what packs are good for the cymbals that aren’t Hats/Crashes/Rides/Chinas, so like Trashes, Stacks, Perforated Cymbals, Spirals, Choppers, all that weird stuff?
I’m considering purchasing an EZX value pack so if your pack in mind has an EZX version then that’s awesome.
Hi
I like the sound of some cymbals which I have downloaded in .wav format. Is there a way of getting these into SD3 ?
Thanks!
Recently downloaded SD3.
Have created a midi track. Cymbals in all patches of SD3 choke out discriminately when I don’t want them to. That is, the same midi notes choke out, whilst others don’t.
I have made sure that the mute hit articulations are all off. When I play the note on my midi keyboard at full velocity for instance, it is fine. When I play it back in my DAW (logic) it chokes. This goes for any preset that I load.
When I bounce the track out, the same problem cymbal hits are choking out.
Can someone assist with this issue please?
See attached files for reference (mp3 and package).
