Having recently found and acquired a really nice second hand Vox AC15 CC1, I was dead inspired and came up with this tune. Wrote some lyrics and had it recorded and produced in less than 4 hours. Hope you enjoy it.
For the tech geeks: Guitar is an old semi-acoustic Zero sette (Gibson 335 style), plugged straight in to the amp. No outboard effects, apart from the built-in spring reverb of the AC15. Used an SM58 (not 57) to capture the guitar sound, mic close to the grill, at the rim of the loudspeaker. Played the entire song in one take to get the right feeling. Drums are EZ Drummer 2 – Dream Pop add on. Started with an existing midi patch and modified it to suit the guitar/song. Used EMT 140 plate reverb on percussion and snare. Used several kicks. Some compression on kick and snare (Logic’s built in FAT emulation stuff). DAW is the Logic Pro X. DI-unit/pre-amp is Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo with an Octo DSP satellite. For compression I generally used UAD’s emulation of the 1176 on several tracks and on the master bus – that compressor just sounds marvelous to me. The vocals were captured with an sE X1 mic, the 610-B pre-amp, 1176 compression, EMT 140 plate and an echo (all UAD emulation). One track has a pitch shifter (Logic plug in), to add some bottom end to the vocals. I think that’s it…
