Although we haven’t heard anything, I think it’s pretty much guaranteed that there will be an SD3 on the way. There’s no way they would add all those great features to a lower level product and forget about the higher level product. The EZD line is marketed to songwriters and composers as an out-of-the-box solution for quick production that works, while SD2 is more for producers and studios that want extensive production flexibility. While I see where a pro studio might more frequently have SD2 hooked up to an electronic kit for use by a live drummer, meaning no need for many of the automated playing enhancements EZD2 features in that scenario, they’ve already developed the technology so why not add it to an SD3 product? Lots of composers who don’t play electronic kits, me being one, also like to work with very flexible production capabilities rather than limited ones. We want the best possible situation without having to call a session drummer and don’t have space for a kit. A new SD3 with the added EZD2 features, plus any other unrevealed enhancements, is a no-brainer purchase for us.

“Something Big is Coming” in “Metal Month November”

Hopefully not another SDX Metal Library. At first I would prefer a completely new designed SD 3.0 Version also touch screen operated,

One way to look at it is that the video could possibly offer references to handheld and touch screens in subtle ways. (beyond the Colin Richardson products announcement, that is)
The poor guy in the video actually touches a big glass surface, and his phone is a notable part of the video, perhaps that’s what you meant too.
IF there is something to this, it would be similar to e.g. how Daniel James made predictions about the NI Monark synth announcement video years ago, (although much more in depth interpretations, where I recall he was at least partly correct.)

I looked for any news or even rumor on a SD3 today, so I read these posts only just now. Still a valid thread…

Oh man, i see google results where people are asking in 2012 “is superior drummer 3 coming out soon?” Here we are in 2016 and still no Superior Drummer 3. But i honestly don’t know what they can improve upon! SD 2.3 does everything i can ask for. I guess they could always add more samples, like drum rolls, cymbal swells, etc. Other than that, i don’t have any suggestions. SD 2 is so flexible. The fact that you can edit the articulations is amazing. Like i can have the snare center hit at one volume/pitch, and i can have the rim shot at another volume or pitch.
I do wish the expansion kits were cheaper. They cost almost as much as SD2 itself.
I know one thing. If SD3 is released, i for sure am upgrading! But i hope the SDX expansion kits for SD2 will be compatible with SD3(if it’s ever released).

Yes they definitely need to improve either built in effects to be on par with BFD3 sound quality or use better effects/processing when they record. eegh eemmm… Tube Distortion is much needed Toontrack!!

Well one improvement that I would love to see in SD3 would be to have some form of the tap, tap, tap drum pattern search engine found in EZD2! I curse SD2x everytime I look for a drum pattern. I have 3 expansion packs and nearly every MIDI pack for Rock imaginable and more to sift. It takes me 2-3 hours to hunt and peck my way through that many drum tracks and variations looking for a suitable drum midi pattern or groove. How is it a lessor product they produce (EZD2) gets those kinds of features and SD2x folks are left waiting for years on a full major version upgrade? In addition improvements can be made to the effects as others have mentioned. I have not looked around lately but I imagine other software vendors have advanced the bar too and that should be looked for a similar inclusion to SD3. I would like to think Toontrack would want the income from a SD upgrade but if you think about it, the SDX expansion packs are probably cheaper to produce that a full blown upgrade to SD2x and they get nearly as much for the expansion packs as they do for SD. Additionally it would be nice to have a groove or drum pattern rating system and comments field in the Drum Groove area or tab. If that were searchable it could save countless hours looking for drum tracks and patterns that had already been reviewed by the user. Today I know of only one way to do this using SD2x. It is possible to rename and copy midi patterns into the User Libraries. By doing this one can organize and sort of catalog drum grooves, but it is laborious at best. To be honest I feel that for myself I might start looking around to see what the competition has to offer. This aspect alone should inspire Toontrack to produce a major SD2x upgrade so they don’t alienate customer and lose them.

    Thanks,
    LB

I would at least like the new (3 years old now) features of EZ3 incorporated into the SD3.

I went to sweetwater’s gearfest 2014 and decided to hold off buying EZ drummer 2 at the gearfest discounted price, because I figured by Christmas 2014 EZ3 would be out with all those EZ2 features and much more… What a sap I was.

At my Club Cubase meeting (where I was originally turned on to SD2) , I was told people were moving on to the native drums inside of Cubase. I might have to revisit it.

    So, I’m about done waiting.

    thanks.
