EZD and Logic Pro–which Transport to use?

Hi, new user with EZDrummer 2 and Logic X Pro. I couldn’t figure out why when using EZD as a plug-in in Logic and using the Transport controls in the EZD window I couldn’t hear the metronome. Then I read a moderator said to click on Record in EZD window and press spacebar (which effectively means hitting Play in the Logic window). When I do it that way, I can hear the click to play along with. How come when you hit Record and Play both in the EZD window there is no click?

Also, notice if you hit Record instead in the Logic window, your pattern information shows up only in the Logic window. It doesn’t show in the EZD window. As a newbie, I’m trying to figure out if I wanna do all my recording/arranging in the plug-in window and then drag it over to Logic (mostly cause the EZD window seems easy to use compared to doing it in Logic)–or if I should just be hitting Record in Logic and building/arranging patterns directly in the Logic window. Thanks for any help!

The design behind this is based on the idea that if you use the record function in your DAW, you can also use the click from the DAW. Like logic – it has its own metronome.

There is no right and wrong here, but you can always record into EZdrummer 2, because in there you can use Edit Play Style, Song Creator, and other features EZdrummer 2 offers. You can after that keep it in EZdrummer 2 – or drag it into Logic. Just remember to disable “Follow Host” if you have MIDI both in Logic and EZdrummer 2, or else you’ll end up with MIDI being played from 2 places at once 🙂

If you want to get MIDI blocks from Logic back to EZdrummer 2, the easiest way is to record enable EZdrummer 2 and press play in Logic. In that way, what you play from Logic is recorded into the song track of EZdrummer 2.
