I’m getting the error “The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer…”

Solution:

If you are getting the error message “The upgrade patch cannot be installed the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists  on your computer and that you have correct upgrade patch.” you most probably are attempting to install a product update without having the full product installed prior to applying the update.

An update can contain bug fixes, remove bad sounding samples, fix MIDI editing errors and a bunch of other stuff. However, it is required that the full product installer is properly run before applying the update. Failing to do so would result in an error as shown below.

The solution is simple. Install the full product installer (from disc or download) prior to applying the update. Once the full install is completed, please apply the update.
