How do I add my Toontrack product as a plug-in in GarageBand?

Here is detailed information on how to add your Toontrack product as a plug-in in GarageBand.

This guide was made using GarageBand version 10.4.6.

Adding a new Software Instrument Track:

If you do not already have a track that you want to add a virtual instrument to, right-click the track area (marked in red in the picture below) and select “New Software Instrument Track”.

Add a Viritual Instrument to your track:

Select the track you want to add the plug-in to and make sure that the button located at the top left of GarageBand for “Smart Controls” is activated:

Go to the bottom of GarageBand and click the arrows to the right of the current software instrument (the arrows to the right of the E-Piano in the picture below). Do not click in the box below, this is for adding an effect plug-in, more about effect plug-ins below.

Go to AU Instruments > Toontrack to find your installed Toontrack plug-ins. Select your desired plug-in.

Add an effects plug-in like EZmix or Audio Sender to your track:

Click on the arrows to the right in the box below your virtual instrument plug-in to add an effects plug-in. Navigate to the Audio Units > Toontrack folder and select your installed Toontrack effect plug-in (like EZmix).

For older versions of GarageBand, please, see this video:
