Drummer
Tell us a little more about yourself. How and why you started playing, who and what inspired you etc? I started drumming at the age of four. Banging on pots and pans and drove my family nuts but I impressed my Dad enough for him to go out and buy me my first drum kit.
Soon after, I began sneaking into my sister’s record collection and began practicing to records of the masters of R&B and Rock & Roll like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jackson 5, David Bowie, Earth, Wind and Fire and The Commodores.
I remember when I got my first KISS & Rush records though, it was on! It totally changed the way I looked at drumming.
What songwriters and musicians inspire you today and where do you see your musicianship in five or ten years from now? I’m really into beat makers and producers at the moment. I listen to producers like Timbaland, Just Blaze, The Neptunes, Dallas Austin and others and appreciate their production and song craft abilities. Songwriter wise, there are too many to name. A good song is a good song. As far as musicians go, I’m digging on people like Tal Wilkenfeld, Thomas Pridgen, Oz Noy, Israel Houghton, Keith Carlock and Tommy Sims and so many others. On musicianship, I’m constantly working on various drumming and music production techniques and applications that will help make an impact on my progress in my musical journey.
What is your relation to electronic drums? I have always loved using electronic drums as an augmentation to the acoustic drum kit and as a music production tool. Live, I use a Roland SPD-S for triggering sounds and Ableton Live. For, production, I use a Korg KontrolPad, EZ Drummer, Ableton, Reason, Alesis D5 and an EMU Procussion and an old Akai MPC60.
Any new exciting projects coming up in the next year that you can tell us about? Yes, Ive started a production company with a partner and we have signed a talented, up and coming female artist to a development deal and will be producing tracks for her and we are very excited about the project.
In closing is there anything you would like to pass on to the Toontrack.com visitors? Your passion speaks volumes. Go with it. You will never be wrong. It’s there for a reason.
