Richard Devine
Producer
Tell us a little more about yourself. How and why you started playing, who and what inspired you etc? I am a electronic artist from Atlanta signed to Warp/Schematic/Asphodel Records. I have been making music for almost 14 years now, and have worked with everyone from Apple to Nike. I would have to say that Morton Subotnick was my main inspiration in my early career. His early works at Cal Arts on the Buchla where what changed my musical direction, abstract and completely freeform.
What songwriters and musicians inspire you today and where do you see your musicianship in five or ten years from now? I was really inspired after hearing the works of Aphex Twin, Stockhausen, and John Cage. I hope to make the electronic music of the future. Constantly researching new sounds and techniques.
What is your relation to electronic drums? I have been programming electronic drums and percussion sounds for the last 11 years. I have worked with almost every analogue and digital based drum machine. I have always loved creating new sounds and creating new interesting rhythms.
Any new exciting projects coming up in the next year that you can tell us about? Finishing up the second Sony library for Sony Media for the second installment of the Premium Collections, as well as working on new exciting new sound design projects for Ableton, Arturia, Native Instruments, and Xbox. New Album coming along with some nice new surprises.
